Tri-State Antique Market

TSAM-14_1.JPG (2069776 bytes)The Tri-State Antique Market will open for its first show of the 2014 season on Sunday, May 4th at the Lawrenceburg Fairgrounds. Billed as"Indiana’s largest antiques and vintage Market," the event will host nearly 20,000 visitors at a series of six dates held on the first Sunday of each month through October. With an ever changing line-up of between 200 and 250 dealers, each Market date is a true adventure in treasure hunting!

Over the years, this legendary antique "flea market" has been an important source for shop owners, home decorators, renovators, and collectors. Month after month, the Market’s vendors present a dazzling variety of antique and vintage furnishings, decorative arts, jewelry, historical Americana, architectural and industrial salvage, and pop culture memorabilia. As decorating and collecting tastes change, vendors adapt to offer the trendiest in vintage styles right alongside traditional classic examples.

The location is within minutes of both the Ohio and Kentucky borders. Full of quaint, country charm complete with shaded groves and large open-air pavilions, the five acre park also offers many modern amenities including paved walks, contemporary restrooms, and local food vendors at all four corners of the midway.

Official Market hours are from 7 AM to 3 PM ET. "Earlybird" shoppers are admitted during vendor set up at 6 AM ET. A walk-in $3.00 admission (over age 17) is charged at all times. Attended pets and children are welcomed. Over half of the Market’s vendors display indoors or under cover, so the event is held "rain or shine."

Architectural and industrial salvage are used for restoration projects, as art objects, and imaginatively repurposed for different functions than originally intended. Advertising memorabilia has a wide range of topical and geographic appeal.  This general store era cracker crate retains enough of its lithographed paper label to stand out from the crowd. Decorating with old letters salvaged from commercial signs is only one aspect of the new “industrial arts” trend. Old factory carts, metal work stations, steel office furniture, school lockers, and machinery parts of all kinds are being reclaimed and repurposed for functional uses in a stylish home. The Tri-State Antique Market continues to be an important source for authentic antique furniture. This early 18th century cherry corner cupboard was shown at the August 2013 Market by Kentucky dealer Mike Cohen.

Although vintage modern and industrial arts have become the trendiest decorating styles in the last few years, country décor continues to be a big seller at the outdoors summer markets.  This “as found” mechanical bank would have crossover appeal to both advertising collectors and toy collectors. Cast iron banks of this sort were popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
